2010 Round 3 - Eastern Creek 2 Recap:

Round 3 of the 2010 NSW State Championship headed back to Eastern Creek with our Rockstar Energy Drink Mazda RX7 leading the points. The man to beat from the get go was Dave Loftus in the BSM Toyota Starlet posting a 1:42.7 qualiftying time, only two tenths shy of his own Lap Record in the BSM GTR Skyline. Following up Loftus was the defending champion Ryan Brown, Doug Moss, Pete Harmston and Graeme Watts rounding out the top 5.

Race 1: In race one, with a no-show from Loftus (breaking a drive shaft in that blinding qualifying session) Brown and Harmston lead the field thru turn 1 while Moss and Watts took up battle stations behind. The Rockstar Energy Drink Mazda RX7 sprinted with Browny and managed to keep the defending champ honest until the dying stages in the race when a few minor mistakes let Browny get a comfortable lead taking the win. Dous Moss rolled over the line for 3rd.

Race 2: We got another good start joining Brown and Watts for the chase thru turn 1 but unfortunately we had more speed and and better run thru turn 1 than the front guys closing up on the back of the RX7 of Watts. In trying to avoid contact, we lost the rear at around 140km sending the Rockstar Mazda RX7 backwards into the wall. Harmo managed to get the engine running again and after a few corners of checking if anything was going to fall from the car, we began to chase the pack, evenually finishing in 13th. Up front, Brown took the win from Graeme Watts, Dave Loftus came from the rear of the grid to finish in 3rd.

Race 3: Due to the event running behind, the organiser shortened our final race to 4 laps (from 8) which meant we had less time to get to the front. We got a great start from the 13th grid position passing 6 cars before turn 1. Unfortunately on our way down to turn 2 going around the outside of 3 more cars, we were bumped under hard braking causing the left front wheel to lock and we skidded backyards off the track. Chasing down the pack from the rear once again but at least this time the car was a little healthier than Race 2. Up front Loftus took the win in the BSM Starlet from Mazda RX7 duo of Ryan Brown and Graeme Watts. After our little second corner hiccup, we managed to cross the line in 8th. Browny got the overall win with 130 points from Graeme Watts (112), Doud Moss (107). We came away from the round with 86 points slipping us to 3rd in the championship with 2 rounds to go.
